'Strong lineup' announced for Memphis in May's Beale Street Music Festival After what many considered an underwhelming lineup in 2010, the Beale Street Music Festival upped the ante on Thursday, announcing one of the stronger and more intriguing lineups in recent memory to mark the 35th edition of the concert event. Taking its usual somethingforeveryone approach, Memphis in May International Festival rolled out a list of more than 60 bands, including current pop hitmakers (Ke$ha, CeeLo Green), critical favorites (Wilco, Flaming Lips), hardrock perennials (Stone Temple Pilots, Godsmack), urban artists (Ludacris, Macy Gray), classic rock acts (John Mellencamp, Gregg Allman) and upandcoming performers (Avett Brothers, Mumford Sons). Coming after weeks of heated speculation, the lineup confirmed a number of longrumored acts for the event, which runs April 29 to May 1 at Tom Lee Park and also includes the likes of Jason Mraz, Lucinda Williams, Sublime with Rome, Ziggy Marley, Charlie Wilson and Hinder. From the top of the bill to the bottom, the roster is a marked improvement on last year's festival, which suffered as a result of a weakened overall concert business and higher price tags for big name acts. "We've got a very strong lineup, with relevant, credible artists, and I think it's going to resonate with the audience," said Jim Holt, president and CEO of Memphis in May. Last month, in response to increased interest due to coach outlet free shipping online speculation about potential performers fueled in part by an official music festival Facebook account organizers took the unprecedented step of selling specially priced festival passes before the lineup was announced. Since then, both the early $49 and $59 passes have sold out. Full festival passes are on sale now for $69, through April 18. Singleday tickets are also on sale now for $30. Tickets will cost $37 at the gate. Holt adds that the early ticket sale was designed to help outoftowners who plan on attending. "We get coach outlets people from all 50 states and from around the world. People travel to see their music festivals, and we decided to go up early (with the tickets) to accommodate them," said Holt. "There has been a great deal of speculation about the lineup this year, cheap coach outlet online but we think that's a good thing." As per tradition, the festival will also boast a large number of local and locally connected performers, including rock legend Jerry Lee Lewis, avantpop crew MGMT, altcountry outfit Lucero, jazz sax man Kirk Whalum, guitar great Travis Wammack and rappers Al Kapone and 8Ball MJG. In addition to the mainstage performers, the festival's popular blues tent will also be a worthwhile destination, with former Hi Records star Otis Clay, folkbluesman John Hammond, Texas guitar slinger Jimmie Vaughn and singer Lou Ann Barton, and R belter Bettye LaVette all set to perform there. Although the roster of acts features the usual crowdpleasing mix of familiar veteran hardrock and radio bands (Buckcherry, Everclear), this year also includes a few indieoriented combos including the New Pornographers, featuring Neko Case. "We're constantly looking for the festival to evolve. It's our 35th anniversary, and I think we've provided a different type of lineup this year," said Holt. As part of a cultural exchange with Memphis in May's honored country of Belgium, The Experimental Tropic Blues Band will also coach outlet coach legacy collection satchels handbags black stores online shopping perform multiple sets during the festival.
