About Us
Mission
Coryell Autism Center prepares young people with autism to lead meaningful, productive and independent adult lives.
Coryell Autism Center
Coryell Autism Center is located in Santa Cruz, California. The Center is a private, nonprofit corporation dedicated to providing specially-designed educational services to people with autism,
multiple disabilities and moderate-severe intellectual disabilities
between the ages of 14 and 22.
The Center operates 229 days a year. The school day runs from 9 am – 3:30 pm.
Our Campus
The Coryell Campus features a café, work rooms, recreation room, and a vegetable and herb garden.
Garden/Café - The students plant and grow fruit, vegetables, and herbs to be used in the café, where they prepare their own meals. You're likely to find students making snacks and drinks for the church community, whose campus we share, as well as the surrounding westside neighborhood.
Recreation Room - The “Rec” room is set up as a place to exercise, interact socially, and to relax as a reward for work well done.
Work Room - The work room hosts our CopyShop, where students provide services - copy, staple, and collate, print catalogs, for local businesses. It also features project areas, a laundry center, and a morning meeting space where students start their day.
Short-Term Goals
- Implement a transitional curriculum designed to empower young people with autism to participate in their homes, the community, and a mainstream life to the fullest extent possible.
- Promote collaborations among educational organizations, state agencies and programs and vocational providers.
- Identify and publish a directory of services and resources for people with autism ages 14 to 22 in Santa Cruz and other Bay area counties.
Long-Term Goals
- Participate in research and contribute to the advancement of evidence-based educational, behavioral, social, life and vocational skills interventions.
- Provide staff development and training to maintain and enhance competence in working with adolescents and young adults with autism.
- Develop a comprehensive data collection and analysis system to monitor and evaluate individual and program performance.
